Lewis Carroll’s books are a source of inspiration for many artists (that’s a post we have in the oven right now) but also for all of us. Maybe you know an Alice themed restaurant or her Central Park statue, but there are many more places for you to discover… Curiouser and curiouser! We made a list of 30 Alice in Wonderland themed places around the world, from restaurants and tea rooms to hotels! Follow us down the rabbit hole!
♧ Alice-Restaurants are several restaurants in TOKYO and OSAKA taking the Alice inspiration to a whole new OTT level, everything (from the menu to the staff outfit) is inspired by Carroll’s books. Check all their venues, they look stunning! Read Curious Places’ post.
♧ The MOA, Museum of Outdoor Arts, in ENGLEWOOD, CO, can take you on a tour through a few Wonderland themed statues! Like The Walrus and the Carpenter, Alice, The Caterpillar, The Cheshire Cat…
♧ There’s a shop in LONDON called Alice Through The Looking Glass selling Alice iconography of all kinds! They even have a giant white rabbit (yes a live one!) sharing the shop with them!
♧ There’s a semi-themed Wonderland theme park in DORSET: Adventure Wonderland. Sadly is basically for kids. But their maze is amazing, and one of the biggest in the UK:
♧ The British Library in LONDON has the original manuscript of the book, and it’s available to view online! (See? One thing of the list you can actually visit right now!)
♧ You can still visit Alice’s Shop in OXFORD, the shop where Alice Liddell used to buy sweets.
♧ Also in OXFORD you an see The Alice Window inside The Great Hall in Christ Church dedicated to Lewis Carroll and Alice Liddell.
♧ If you visit Central Park in NY you can’t miss Alice’s statue by José de Creeft. It was constructed in 1959 and trust me, photos make no justice! There are so many details, not only in the statue also quotes carved in the floor!
♧ La Rosa Hotel in WHITBY has a cozy Wonderland feel to it. They also have a Lewis Carroll inspired room because he stayed there several times.
♧ The Rabbit Hole bar is in ALHAMBRA, CA, and they have their own version of a mad tea party, yep, alcohol instead of tea. They have some interesting teacup cocktails…
♧ You can follow the rabbit down the Alice in Wonderland Ride in BLACKPOOL Pleasure Beach! It was built in 1961 and has that creepy vintage charm we all love. Here’s a video!
♧ There’s an abandoned Alice in Wonderland theme park in SEOUL. Looks like a nightmare wonderland, doesn’t it? So sad. The photo below is by Lindsay Eryn, check her wonderful photo post of the park!

♧ There’s an oyster restaurant in SEATTLE called The Walrus and the Carpenter after Through the Looking-Glass. There’s also a Gluten Free Eatery in WHITBY with the same name: The Walrus and the Carpenter and a pub in LONDON with the same name and lots of Carroll references.
♧ There’s a Lewis Carroll Centre in DARESBURY. Not easy to get there but it was Carroll’s birthplace.
♧ Alice Dreams shop was described as a wonderland of curiosities, this BRIGHTON shop with a façade worth a thousand photos closed. I was there some years ago and besides the Alice façade they also had this amazing mural! Can anyone from Brighton confirm if the mural is still there? This is the last photo I have seen… Not looking good but still there I hope!

♧ An Alice in Wonderland themed tearoom in CHESHIRE, Davenports Tea Room, got the award for best place in the UK to take afternoon tea in 2013. Delicious teas, homemade cakes… They also organise Mad Hatters Tea Parties from time to time!
♧ There’s a extremely themed Alice room in TOKYO Disneyland!
♧ There’s a Mad Hatter Bistro in BIRMINGHAM, MI, They have lunch and afternoon tea (of course!). Their decoration is superb and their veggie main dish is called “DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE” so appropriate…
♧ Witty Knitters shops are Wonderland 100%: trees, hats, rabbits, upside down furniture… If you are in GERMANY or traveling there in the future don’t miss them! I suddenly want to re-decorate my room.
♧ The Wonderland House in BRIGHTON is a luxury accommodation in front of the sea with all things Wonderland inside. Everything there screams Alice! They also have a little sister in the Lanes: The Looking Glass Cottage!
♧ There’s an OXFORD Mad Hatter Tour Guide! Plan B would be Teas and Tours With Mr Darcy…
♧ A Baker’s Tale is a Wonderland themed bakery in CHICAGO. Unlike many other themed places their prices are very reasonable. They have Wonderland decor and specials, but they get inspiration from fairy tales in general.
♧ There’s an Alice in Wonderland shop in NAGOYA and another in OSAKA. The shop is called Alice on Wednesday and it’s on my bucket list. They not only have amazing decorations, the stuff they sell is eye candy for any Wonderland lover. Photo from Lala Love Travel, check the rest!
♧ Inspired in the Mad Tea Party you can find Richmond Tea Rooms in MANCHESTER. I went there once and it was unforgettable, charming OTT decor and lovely cups! In their menu you can find Queen’s Tea, Hatter’s Tea and Alice’s Tea, plus many other delicious treats.
♧ Wonderland Amusement Park was China’s version of Disneyland. Sadly the park in BEIJING, has been demolished…
♧ Chateau Monfort Hotel in MILAN took inspiration from the white rabbit. It’s like a grown up version of Wonderland. Jayne was there, check her review!
♧ At Swan in LONDON you can have an Alice themed dinner! With “a giant chess board dance floor, plenty of pink flamingos and dinner tables inspired by the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party“.
